Emmeline & Essie

Emmeline & Essie and the Land of Color

Ten-year-old Emmeline used to love bringing hope to the residents in the local nursing home, but after losing her father, all hope faded in her heart, and she could no longer make the residents smile as she used to. The contagious hope and joy she once had and gave to others has become overshadowed with grief and despair making her fear that this shadow will never let her feel hope and joy again or do what she loves to do most, bring that hope and joy to others.

One night, Essie, Emmeline’s Flemish giant bunny that her father gave to her on her tenth birthday, alerts her to an unexpected visitor hidden behind her bedroom dresser, a Hopeling named Benny from The Land of Color. Benny is frantic and asks for Emmeline’s help because his family and his entire land is being threatened by The Shadow, a dark power inadvertently created by the Hopeling King’s grief of losing his only daughter, that has stolen all magic, hope, and color from the land. Only the most powerful hope of all can defeat The Shadow by growing a yellow flower of hope in the King’s daughter’s garden, but this kind of hope can only be found in the heart of a child from a world without magic… Emmeline’s world. Not believing that her heart holds any of this powerful hope that Benny speaks of, but not wanting Benny and his family to have to endure the pain of never feeling hope again, Emmeline, along with Essie, joins Benny and journeys into The Land of Color where the three of them must not only battle Shadowlings, malevolent hypnotic flowers, and dark whispers on the way to the King’s daughter’s garden, but Emmeline must also face and journey through her own inward grief and despair in order to discover the power of hope to save Benny’s land and bring hope back into her own heart.
